Monster of the Day #1509

Have I really never featured this guy? Man, I really need to do an inventory.

  • OH GOD THE HORROR, THE HORROR, THE ABSOLUTE UNMITIGATED RESOLUTE NEVER ENDING ALL ENCOMPASSING SLIGHTLY EXAGGERATED PULSE POUNDING NERVE SHATTERING NIGHTMARE ENDUING COMPLETELY TAX FREE (EXCEPT IN CALIFORNIA) HORROR! THAT A FILM LIKE THIS COULD BE MADE! MEIN GOTT!

And it’s still better than most Sci Fi channel flicks. How is that even possible?

    Zappula

Totally unintended humor from not realizing how bad it is?

  • KeithB

If you are looking for fodder you haven’t tapped, the new Lego Batman movie has some good monsters.

That right there is precisely the reason for it. It’s why Ed Wood is the patron saint of bad movies. An unabashed love of movies and desire to make them; a sincere belief you’re creating something wonderful; and a complete and utter inability to realize you have no idea what you’re doing, and that you’re doing everything wrong.

  • bgbear_rnh

Magic rings and wands really do look dumber than expected when committed to film.

  • Ericb

And Coleman Francis is the Star Trek Mirror Universe Ed Wood.

  • Gamera977

Zandor Vorkov was the worst Green Lantern ever…

  • Gamera977

As opposed to the gaming table, when I fire off the ‘wand of wonder’ and butterflies shoot out of it TOTALLY COOL!!!

  • bgbear_rnh

Well, yes, of course you look cool ;-)

It was only last year I finally got to see this one. I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. Too bad they didn’t keep the original ending, which was a lot stronger, but against all evidence it’s clear IIP knew what they were doing.

  • Ken_Begg

    I’m not so sure that’s true……

  • Eric Hinkle

Is this from ‘Dracula versus Frankenstein’?

Saw John Wick 2 over the weekend and it was great. First time I’ve been motivated to see a new movie by myself in forever. (OK, Shin Godzilla, but special case.) It was pretty great, but Lego Batman is next. I was encouraged by the fact that Kong: Skull Island is a flat two hours. That seems the most reasonable running time we’re likely to get these days for ‘big’ pictures. Logan also looks like it could be pretty good. If they both get good reviews, I might just get in the habit of going to see movies again. And Marvel has three movies this year instead of two.

  • Rock Baker

    Yes.

  • Eric Hinkle

    Thanks.

By the way, loyal Jabootuites, but have you heard about the ‘serious and relevant’ remake of ‘Plan 9 from Outer Space’ that is currently out on DVD, titled ‘Plan 9’? If anyone has seen it, can they tell me if it’s as dire as the description alone makes it sound?

  • Eric Hinkle

BTW, hear about the remake of ‘Plan 9’, currently in stores on DVD? It’s billed as ‘the movie Ed Wood wanted to make’. Oodles of CGI and gore, a generic ebil gummint/military plot (and aliens too) worthy of the SyFy Originals, and whole hordes of zombies ravaging the countryside rather than the 3 of the earlier film. They even have the nerve to present some skinny bald schnook as ‘the new Tor Johnson’.

What is wrong with some people? As a clerk at the store told me when he saw it, “You just don’t mess with the classics, man!”

  • The Rev.

Wow. Absolutely nothing you wrote there makes me want to see that in any way.

  • Eric Hinkle

My work here is done. Seriously, why would anyone want to remake Plan 9?

  • Rodford Smith

But is it as bad as _Event Horizon_?
